During our debrief session we learned:
o It is important to research the company to make sure that you are knowledgeable in the area and the company and make sure it is a good fit for you.
o It is important to research the job position and see if your skills match up with that position.
o Dressing appropriately is very important because we are visual people. The way a candidate dresses tells the interviewer a lot about the candidate.
o Have a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
o Be humorous.
o Be comfortable and relaxed.
o Have a good posture.
o Make sure that when the interviewer says, “Tell me about yourself” your response focuses more on your technical skills, abilities, and positive qualities that you would bring to the job more than your personal skills.
o It is important that you use vocabulary that relates to the job to show your technical skills.
o Use proper grammar and refrain from slang.
o In order to get into a field or to get back into a field, volunteer in that field so that you become familiar with the vocabulary and the atmosphere and develop your technical skills.
o Be versatile so that you set yourself apart from the other candidate.
o Be relatable so that the interviewer feels that the other employees will be comfortable around you.
The mock interviews were truly insightful and beneficial! Thank you to our volunteer interviewers once again!
