Cheryl, Jakie, and Tyonia came to MND from a national life insurance company/brokerage firm. Cheryl began working for the company after a few years as a receptionist and owning her own day care business. As a single mom with no college degree, Cheryl knew it would be difficult to find a high paying job but she continued to push herself until she found this opportunity.
Jakie spent 25 years in the banking industry before coming to her current position. She wanted more freedom than a 9-5 job could afford her and working where she is now gave her that opportunity. Jakie gained a new prospective from her work in the brokerage field; she is able to show her grandchildren a better life than she had, growing up in the inner city of Baltimore. "I now know I can be greater than my start," she said.
Tyonia's mother inspired her to work in the insurance/brokerage field and with her current company. Growing up with 6 brothers and sisters, Tyonia was always the responsible one. She witnessed her mother working job to job and saw how little time she could spend with her family because of it. Now that her mother has 6 more children, Tyonia wants to be able to make a difference for her younger siblings by giving them that time with her mother she never had. "My mission is motivate more young people to staff new offices at our company because I know there are other people out there in the same situation."
Our fourth guest, Bilal is the founder and CEO of a community development corporation whose mission is to nurture creative entrepreneurs. After spending years in the entertainment industry as an artist, Bilal realized something was missing; he didn't have that financial infrastructure around him to make his work profitable. He began his business after consulting professional advisors and seeing how great it would be to provide that infrastructure to other artists. His business has been up and running for 3 years. Bilal wanted clients to realize that everyone has a vision and that everyone, with the right infrastructure in place, can make that vision a reality. "Not only will you be building your own job," Bilal said, "but you will be building jobs for others as well."
Thank you again to our inspiring guests who showed us the power of dedication and believing in oneself. Check these two pictures from the event, below:
